The Honda CB450 is a standard motorcycle made by Honda from 1965 to 1974 with a 444 cc (27.1 cu in) 180° DOHC straight-twin engine.

Honda calls these VHD (Variable Hydraulic Damping) shocks, variable meaning they have a blow-off valve to prevent the shocks from going into the pogo-mode when they become overheated and overworked. Though decked out and trimmed as a sport model, the 450 Hawk still comes to us with an essentially middle-of-the-road set of handlebars and footpegs.

Honda employs a plunger-type oil pump in which two steel balls serve as valves. One of the best clutches that Honda has built is the seven-plate unit in the CB 450. It takes up the drive smoothly. and positively with a minimum of spring pressure being felt at the clutch lever.

The new CB450 was a 444cc twin, running double overhead cams that controlled their valves via torsion bars. And following a successful, if unorthodox, arrangement, the crank was once again configured at 180°. The set-up may have delivered an unusual engine note for a parallel four-stroke twin, but it also significantly reduced engine vibrations.
